Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Wednesday maintained his belief that reducing the demand for illegal drugs is the way to go to solve the country’s drug problem.“If all drugs supply is reduced/stopped, addicts will merely switch to other substances of abuse like cough syrup, Nubain , contact cement, etc, etc. Demand reduction is more effective. The day we stop buying is the day they stop selling!” Sotto said in a text message to reporters.
Robredo is now leading the government’s campaign against illegal drugs after being challenged by President Duterte, designating her as co-chair of the Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs last October 31. She, however, also underscored the need for more funds for the government’s anti-drug abuse education programs and rehabilitation centers.
