Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara is now seeking the passage of a bill that would establish dental clinics in all of the Department of Health’s (DOH) rural health centers.

Angara said no Filipino should be left behind when it comes to oral health care.“Marami sa ating kababayan na ayaw magpatingin sa dentista dahil lang sa takot nila na kailangan magbayad ng napaka mahal na halaga ,” Angara pointed out.

According to the senator, a 2015 study shows that the Philippines has the highest number of people wearing dentures in Asia. Ninety two percent of the population is suffering from dental caries, while 78 percent have gum diseases. “Clearly, this is a problem, which if not addressed, would lead to minor inconveniences such as losing sleep and more serious consequences including loss of productivity,” he said.

The dental unit shall consist of a public health dentist and a trained barangay health worker, who will serve as the dental aide.

Gatchalian urges DOE to study impact of biofuel increase in dieselSenator Sherwin Gatchalian on Tuesday urged the Department of Energy (DOE) to thoroughly study the possible impact to consumers if the plan to increase biofuel content in diesel pushes through. Let me get this clear: The impact of higher cocobiodiesel blending has been thoroughly studied by the private sector & academe & shared with DOE well before the 2006 Biofuels Law. Blend should have long since gone up to 5% from the initial 2% if not for DOE’s indecision!! 🤨
