Henry Ayede, the spokesperson for the cash transfers programme office, toldthat the N20,000 covers four months’ stipends for the beneficiaries from January to April.
President Buhari on Sunday had ordered the three-month moratorium on government-funded loans from institutions such as the Bank Of Industry and Nigerian Export-Import Bank to beneficiaries of schemes such as TraderMoni, MarketMoni and FarmerMoni beneficiaries.The Conditional Cash Transfer programme was introduced in 2016 as part of President Buhari’s Social Investment Programme . It involves payment of N5,000 monthly, paid bi-monthly, to the poorest Nigerians, mostly in rural communities.
“We have directed immediate cash transfer to the poorest and most vulnerable households in the country,” she said. According to a 2019 report by the NSIP, about 297,973 poor households in 20 states had already been receiving the cash transfers.
