The sacked council bosses, all members of the All Progressives Congress, were elected in a poll boycotted by the Peoples Democratic Party on May 12, 2018.
There has been crisis in the councils in the state as the sacked chairmen, relying on the pronouncement of the Supreme Court and a letter written to the governor by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, resumed their duties. The state government had obtained an injunction restraining the sacked chairmen; Inspector-General of Police; and Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice from further action on the matter.
At the resumed hearing on the matter before Justice Mashud Abass on Wednesday, counsel for the state government, Akin Onigbinde , informed the court that the state government had decided to settle out of court for the sake of peace.Lawyers for the defendants, Niyi Akintola and Kunle Sobaloju, said their clients would not accept any impediment against smooth dispensation of justice.
They said it would be necessary that all cases on the suspension of the council chairmen be dispensed with for the out-of-court settlement to be effective. The court adjourned the case till February 12.All rights reserved.
