Ninety-five groups seeking to become registered political parties in the country currently have their applications pending before the Independent National Electoral Commission, The PUNCH reports.

The Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, confirmed this to The PUNCH on Wednesday.INEC had in February 2020 de-registered 74 political parties after assessing the then existing political parties.There were reports on Tuesday that some prominent politicians unveiled a new political platform, Rescue Nigeria Project, in Abuja.

Although some of those whose names were mentioned as being part of the initiative have denied floating new parties. Our correspondent sought to know from Oyekanmi if INEC had pending applications from groups that were seeking to be registered as political party and the number of such applications. “The total number of applications from associations seeking registration as political parties as of today is 95,” the spokesman of the electoral body’s chairman said.

It seems Apc & Pdp will stay for a long time, if these parties can come united and form a very strong opposition with new leaders that will sparehead the movement. At least give us the chance to choose other than Apc & Pdp .
