It’s the second year the city has held the Akron City Festival, which celebrates the upcoming school year with activities for youth Sept. 1. AKRON, Ohio – The city of Akron will celebrate the new school year with the second annual Akron City Festival on Sunday, Sept. 1.

The fest is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. in downtown Akron on Bowery Street by Lock 3’s Backyard. Highlights include a parade, a DJ, games, basketball, face painting, a fashion show, a cheer show, a magic show, food vendors, gaming trucks and inflatables, according to the city. “The Akron City Festival is a great way to bring our community together and celebrate back-to-school time for our students,” Akron Mayor Shammas Malik said in a news release. “We want to start off their academic year with a fun, celebratory event that helps set the tone and puts them on a path for a joyful, successful year. This event is fun for all ages and will help empower our students and our community.

The parade begins at 1 p.m. and features student athletes, extracurricular clubs and youth organizations. The parade will start at Main Street and Rosa Parks Drive and will travel along Main Street, turn left on Bowery Street and conclude at the Lock 3 Backyard Stage.2 p.m. - cheer showThe festival is hosted by Night Lyfe Entertainment and presented by the city of Akron, with support from Akron Public Schools, Lock 3 and Downtown Akron Partnership., an email newsletter delivered at 5:30 a.m.
