, a celebration of equality for LGBTQ+ people living in Summit County, returns this weekend to the city’s downtown.
Highlights include a 5K on Friday, Aug. 23, and an equity march and festival featuring food, drinks and entertainment on Saturday, Aug. 24. Some 40,000 people attended last year’s festivities, according to Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro. “When we come together and intentionally celebrate equality, inclusion, and belonging, our residents benefit, our businesses benefit, and our communities grow stronger,” Shapiro said in a news release. “I am proud of the progress we have made in advancing the ability for LGBTQ+ people of all backgrounds to live and thrive in Summit County.”The Akron Pride 5K is scheduled for Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m. The event begins and finishes at Canal Place, located at 520 S. Main St.
