Hundreds of musicians and artists will take to porches and patios throughout Akron’s Highland Square neighborhood on Saturday for the 12th PorchRokr music festival.AKRON, Ohio – On Saturday, Aug. 17, porches and patios throughout Akron’s Highland Square neighborhood will transform into pop-up concert venues and art galleries for the 12th PorchRokr music festival.
Admission is free for the fest, which is open to people of all ages. Some 150 musicians and bands representing a variety of musical genres are scheduled to perform during the fest, which begins at 11 a.m. Most performances will take place at more than 30 verandas between West Market, Aqueduct and Hurlburt streets. More than 100 artists will also exhibit and sell works.
Festival-goers looking for a bite to eat or drink are in luck – local restaurants will have food and drink for purchase and more than a dozen food trucks will also be on site. A beer garden is located on Sherwood Drive, which is closed to traffic during the event.Yoga for people of all levels by Yoga Squared from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at The Merriman, located at 209 Merriman Road.
Glass blowing demonstrations by Akron Glass Works at the intersection of Charlotte Street and Weber Avenue.A kids’ zone featuring activities for children, located at 39 Hawthorne Ave.Community members are encouraged to walk or bike to the festival if possible. Metro RTA offers free rides on Saturdays during August. United Disability Services will offer shuttle rides throughout the event., an email newsletter delivered at 5:30 a.m. Wednesdays.
