A Seattle Police Department officer on routine patrol observed the man abruptly exiting a parking lot and accelerating through four lanes of traffic at a high speed. He then proceeded to run a crosswalk before crashing into a traffic signal pole situated near 3rd Avenue and East Cherry Street around 2:00 a.m. on Friday.
\The officer identified the man as being under the influence of alcohol and subsequently arrested him. During the arrest, an open can of Genesee Cream Ale was discovered in the front seat's cupholder.
