KOTA KINABALU: A villager’s daily morning routine of checking his chickens took a shocking turn when he found a newborn baby boy in Sabah’s east coast Lahad Datu district on Monday . The 51-year-old man had found the baby abandoned without any clothes on him on top of one of the villager’s chicken coops at Kampung Jawa around 6.30am.

Lahad Datu OCPD Asst Comm Dr Rohan Shah Ahmad said a police team rushed to the location after being alerted by the villager. “The baby, weighing some 3kg, has been sent to the Lahad Datu district hospital for treatment,” he said in a statement.“We are currently looking for those responsible who abandoned the baby. The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment as the custodian had the intention to discard the baby,” he added.
