“In line with the mission to protect children, I urge the government to follow the footsteps of the Russian Parliament which recently introduced an Act to restrict propaganda which promotes and normalises unnatural sex, peadophilia and LGBT,” he said when debating the Suhakam Annual Report 2020 in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday .
Welcoming the government’s move to roll out the Children’s Commission, Wan Fayshal said such a move will protect children from such elements in social and mainstream media and “cultural products”. He said with such laws in place, the government will have nothing to fear or be apologetic in taking action, to ensure that traditions are preserved in the context of Malaysian human rights.
In November last year, the Russian Parliament passed a law banning “LGBT propaganda” among adults as part of the Kremlin’s conservative push. The law criminalises any act regarded as an attempt to promote “non-traditional sexual relations” in the media such as social media, films, advertisement or in the general public.
