JOHOR BARU: Any contest in Umno will not necessarily divide or weaken the party however keen or hot it may be, says Johor Umno chief Datuk Hasni Mohammad.

Hasni said that it was important to adhere to the party constitution, which stipulates that the three year term could be extended a further 18 months due to a general election or a natural disaster.

He said that if the supreme council decided to postpone the election, it would be in line with the party's constitution, as nobody has the power to go above the constitution. On March 30, it was reported that Khairy, who is also the Rembau MP, has called for the party election to be held to address the internal struggle within the party.
