IPOH: The Perak Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) has detected and seized about RM2,565 worth of illegally-imported petai and durian.

Its director, Rozita Superman, said the seizures were made during a three-day operation at the Pengkalan Hulu Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security complex from July 9 to 11.“They did not follow the requirements as stated by the Maqis import permit, ” she said.

Some of the produce were not packed in plastic or did not have stickers affixed to show information like the weight and type of produce. She said since the information required was not provided, the case falls under Section 15 of the Quarantine and Inspection Service Act 2011 .She added that the department is determined to make sure only clean and good produce enters the country.

“We want to make sure that plants, animals, fish, plant products and microorganisms entering the country are free from any diseases, pests and pollution, ” she said.
