National women's singles shuttler Soniia Cheah's has pulled out of the SEA Games women's singles event due to injury.

The 26-year-old had to retire from her first round match against Myanmar's Thet Htar Tzuzar at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex here on Thursday . Soniia pulled her hamstring in the first game after she had raced to a 10-5 lead, but soldiered on to win 21-18. However, the pain was too much to bear and she lost the second game 15-21, eventually conceding the match when she was trailing 5-12.

Soniia was Malaysia's best hope to retain the women's singles gold won by Goh Jin Wei in Kuala Lumpur two years ago.With Soniia out, S. Kisona is the only remaining Malaysia representative in the event.
