PUTRAJAYA: There are locals in Sabah MCA who can be fielded as candidates in the state election without the party having to parachute in candidates from outside, says party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka SiongHowever, he did not confirm when asked if MCA would take part in the election and which seats the party would contest.

“We will discuss... this kind of political move we cannot announce early. Let’s see on Sept 12 where will contest,” he said on Tuesday . In the 14th general election, Barisan Nasional candidates from MCA had contested in Luyang and Kapayan.Dr Wee said he believes there are local and capable talents at all of MCA’s 25 divisions in Sabah.

“If there are local talents, why should there be parachute candidates? MCA has been in Sabah for 29 years and there is no reason, being there for that long, that we cannot find good local talents to be candidates,” he said. MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon was reported to have said that the party intends to field young candidates from among the people of Sabah in the state election, adding the party has qualified and experienced individuals to offer as candidates.
