IPOH: The bunnies have been hopping off the shelves.

“I don’t even have one piece left to put up as a sample. They were all gone within weeks,” said Cannie Tan, referring to the rabbit soft toys in her shop here.

“These soft toys are just too cute. Almost everybody, from retailers to walk-in customers, could not resist hugging them,” she said, adding that online sales are doing well too. Her shop has been selling 10 types of soft toys for the past three months. It also offers various items with the animal theme such as gold-coloured coin boxes and red packets.

Tan, 52, said many people are also attracted to the cute danglers and decorative stickers featuring the rabbit in fluffy and lace fabrics.“The ang pow packets are also popular due to the 3D designs of the rabbits’ ears sticking out,” she added. Besides this, Tan said the traditional red lanterns and piggy banks are old favourites of her customers.Tan’s mother-in-law Lee Kim Siek, 72, who was already dressed in the Chinese New Year theme, said many younger people are captivated by the animal designs.Housewife Cheah Xin Hui was seen shopping for danglers and stickers to decorate her home.“She likes watching cartoons, so she immediately ran to the area where the stickers were placed to pick some designs of her choice,” said Cheah, 29.
