Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said the current 2,500 officers and personnel on duty and patrolling the borders and coastal areas in the Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak will be doubled.“We will boost a 100 per cent of strength following the Health Ministry’s precaution on the danger of our country being potentially hit by a third wave of Covid-19 from external elements. We take heed of the ministry’s statement and we will step up on our nation’s security.

“The third wave is expected to be brought about by illegals who use unauthorited routes to enter the country and for sure their presence here without health screenings would pose a high risk,” said Abdul Hamid today. Abdul Hamid told a press conference held at Bukit Aman headquarters today that he had also met his counterparts from the Armed Forces for a brainstorming session where ideas were discussed on how to strengthen the country’s borders and lower the risks of Covid-19 from spreading further.
