Discussions from a legal standpoint will be held on the issue soon, says Azisman Alias.

Heavier penalties should be imposed on any person found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, said Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Azisman Alias.

“Discussions from a legal standpoint will be held on the issue and I believe the public welcomes this,” he told a press conference in Bukit Aman today when commenting on the increasing cases of fatal accidents involving those who drove under the influence of alcohol. For drunk driving offences leading to deaths, offenders are subject to Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 and a maximum jail term of 12 months.

But he is under the allowable limit that was prescribed by the law....nothing can be done...it is a terrible accident and not his intention.....when will they learn!! I pray that the family of the victim (not the drunk one anyway) will have their peace.

Agreed and that must includes Mat Rempits & reckless driving

Not severely punished, hukum mati je...mangsa yg terkorban tu apa citer

A welcome move 👏

PDRMsia AGCPutrajaya my_malaysia MOTMalaysia Tunggu apa lagi. Banyak nyawa yang tak bersalah melayang. Ramai lagi kecacatan kekal. Tapi sewenangnya pemandu mabuk bayar denda dan hidup seperti biasa. Sibuk hal rokok, child seat, lesen ehailing dll tapi yg penting tak ubah

Agreed, but many sees it as a bigger opportunity the bigger the punishment / fine. ' So apa macam '

Nonsense. Why are Islamofascists PDRMsia picking on drunk drivers only when their religion tells them to take action on intoxication? All drug addict drivers and drunk drivers should be sentenced to death. How's that PDRMsia? Are you game for it? Otherwise you are just bluffing.

Accident that causes death must be in be investigated and punish accordingly. The driver who caused the fatal accident could be on drugs, sopeding, using mobile phime, beat traffic light ... So not just drunk drivers but all bad drivers who endangered others

Yaaammmmm ssseeennngggggg..

Road gangsters who can kill themselves may be penalised up to 5 years & drunkards who kill others only are only liable up to 12 months. anthonyloke
