KEPALA BATAS: A woman was cheated out of RM67,000 by a phone scam syndicate.

According to Seberang Prai Utara OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor, the 26-year-old victim had received a call from an individual claiming to the representatives of DHL.

"The victim was then passed to another individual claiming to be a police officer from Guangzhou and the alleged officer then told the victim that she had been involved in criminal activity and was facing arrest. Noorzainy said fearing arrest, the victim transferred cash through a cash deposit machine and made three transactions into the account given by the person on the phone amounting to RM27,000.
