They said that over the past few weeks, Pharmacy Enforcement branches in states all over Malaysia had confiscated the anti-parasitic drug in raids.
"Therefore, ivermectin cannot be prescribed by any doctor or compounded and dispensed by any pharmacist other than in the approved indication, as per the MOH directive," they said in a joint statement on Wednesday . "There is no meaningful evidence for clinical activity or clinical efficacy in patients with Covid-19 disease, and a concerning lack of safety data in the majority of studies," it said in a statement on its website.
"However, there is low-certainty evidence that ivermectin prophylaxis reduces Covid-19. It is imperative that the public understands that uncontrolled usage of ivermectin can cause side effects that may be damaging," they said.
It's only a dewormer that families been using for decades. Rather than warn, please tell the public what harm can ivermectin do ?
