Officials from ministries meet representatives from workshop owners and tow truck drivers over carmakers' warranty move. FMTNews Penang Protest PenangMotorVehicleWorkshopOwnerAssociation

Penang Motor Vehicles Workshop Owners’ Association president Khor Kong Siah shakes hands with the chief minister’s political secretary, Teh Lai Heng, following the successful conclusion of talks in Juru today.

The group representing the workshops and tow truck drivers had entered the third day of their indefinite strike against the move, which they said would put them out of business by voiding warranties on cars repaired at third-party shops. He told reporters in Juru here a high-powered team from various federal ministries had met with him and other committee members to hear their concerns.

Thirty-five insurer-panel or Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia registered workshops in Penang had shuttered since Monday and some 200 tow truck drivers had stayed off the road to protest against the anti-competitive move by major carmakers insisting that repairs are carried out only at official service centres.
