They say reports have been lodged but no action taken.

GEORGE TOWN: A group of express bus operators here claim they have been “terrorised” by touts demanding a commission for every ticket sold over the past two years.

Edward Lim, a spokesman for the 15 bus operators at the Sungai Nibong bus terminal, said they had made repeated complaints to the authorities but to no avail. On average, he said, bus operators make only RM20 per ticket which in itself represents a loss. He said they had tried to broker a deal with the touts to give them RM7 per ticket, but they refused to accept it.

Lim said the operators had lodged five reports: four to the Land Public Transport Agency and one to the police.

Penang may raise plastic bag levy to 50 senGEORGE TOWN (Bernama): The Penang government will hold a discussion with stakeholders before it decides to implement a plastic bag levy of 50 sen instead of the 20 sen imposed now. what about the plastics that is used to package most of the products on the supermarket shelves? do we not need to pay for each and every one of those too? this picture itself shows how many other plastics are there, like the gardenia, egg cover, plastic bottles etc this nonsense is clearly to victimize the consumers. the problem here is not the plastics but the 10% who threw their garbage indiscreetly. stop using the easy way out to show the world that they are doing something for the environment, which is stupid. however much they charged for the plastic bags, it will not prevent the pollution. the solution is to educate the young to clean up after themselves. this is a decades-old problem which cannot be solved overnight or with fines.
