Rafidah Aziz is the latest to dismiss senior minister Azmin Ali’s claim that the manufacturing sector cannot be blamed for Covid-19 clusters.
Rafidah, who headed the ministry for two decades, said the government’s own statistics revealed that the manufacturing sector accounted for 48% of cases from Covid-19 clusters.Business entities, she added, were suffering, from the “biggest to the smallest”, as well as micro businesses.On Monday, Azmin denied allegations that the manufacturing sector was the biggest contributor to the high number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia.
“Therefore, it is not right to blame the economic sector, especially the manufacturing sector,” he said when asked to comment on the call for factories to be closed due to the continued high number of infections. Rafidah went on to call for Putrajaya to review some of the rules set for these industries to avoid not only being prohibited from operating but the possibility of having their contracts as suppliers terminated.
