'Are they (novelty condoms) safe to use and approved for contraception and disease prevention? 'When it comes to more adventurous condoms such as the edible ones and ones that glow in the dark, are they toxic for regular use?' - Cheeky Christopher

First of all, apologies for a cheeky request to put Dr. G on the spot during the festivity, as we are exploring novelty pleasure between the sheets.Since we first met, we have always been rather adventurous in the bedroom matters. We constantly find ways to spice up our sex lives.Hence, this leads us to our big question about condoms. We have heard about some novelty condoms and wish to put Dr. G on the spot for a bit of clarification.

The emergence of novelty condoms requires manufacturers to design the condoms for fun and pleasure, without compromising the effectiveness for protection. The textured, bumpy, ribbed and studded rubbers are other creative condoms that promise to turn bedroom sparkles to magical fireworks. The intended benefit of such novelty condoms is to general extra frictional contacts during intercourse, however some couples may find the ridges, bumps and studs painful rather than pleasurable.

On the other hand, the warming condoms tend to be made of thinner latex, which are coated with a warming lubricant that is activated by natural body moisture, intended to heat up during penetrative intercourse. There is no robust scientific data to support or dispute the pleasurable effect of novelty condoms.
