KOTA KINABALU: There is no requirement to obtain a royal assent in order to table the anti-party hopping Bill in the Sabah state legislative assembly, says state Opposition leader Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

The Parti Warisan president said the law should only be presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Head of State for their consent once the state assembly voted in favour of the Bill.

The Senallang assemblyman was commenting on the remarks by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor who said the Sabah government did not purposely delay the tabling of the anti-party hopping Bill. Nonetheless, Shafie, who was also the Semporna MP said Warisan welcomed the decision to table the Bill in this week’s sitting, adding they would scrutinise it to see if what the Bill contained could really bring political stability in the state.

"We did not even know it would be tabled, even the State Assembly Speaker previously said was not the sitting agenda. He said he was informed by the Sabah government that they were planning to table the Bill but could not confirm if it would be tabled in the May 22-25 sitting.
