Villagers of Kampung Nelayan in Teluk Bahang, Penang, are heaving a sigh of relief.

The construction of a new bridge across the Teluk Bahang river not only solved the flood problems but also enhanced the image of Kampung Nelayan as a strategic tourist attraction, said state public works, utilities and flood mitigation committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari.

He said the state government allocated RM3,789,810 for it but the actual construction cost turned out to be RM1,153,585 and therefore, they managed to save RM2,636,225. “With the new bridge, the flood problem here will be solved as the bridge opens up a large river flow space, ” he said during the handing over ceremony at the bridge’s site office on Tuesday.
