BUKIT MERTAJAM: A man in his 30s, believed to have been slashed by a group of assailants, succumbed to his injuries at Hospital Bukit Mertajam here.

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Shafee Abd Samad said the victim was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the hospital.

"Investigations found that the incident happened on Saturday at about 8.20pm at Kampung Baru, Bukit Mertajam where the man was involved in a fight.He said the victim suffered serious injuries on his body and was sent to the hospital by members of the public. ACP Shafee said further investigation found that the incident happened near a food court in the area, and the victim and assailants knew each other.

"Investigation is ongoing and efforts to track down the suspects have begun," he said, adding that police are also investigating the cause of the incident. ACP Shafee urged the public and witnesses to come forward and contact investigation officer Ahmad Shahir Adnan at 019-951 7045 or 04-5382 222.On May 15, police detected three video clips uploaded on Facebook showing a woman holding a weapon by the roadside with the victim lying on the ground.
