LARANGAN penjualan arak di kedai runcit, serbaneka dan kedai ubat Cina di Kuala Lumpur adalah cubaan licik untuk mengekang hak masyarakat bukan Islam di negara ini, dakwa Timbalan Ketua Menteri II Pulau Pinang P. Ramasamy. Mengecam Menteri Wilayah Persekutuan Shahidan Kassim, Ramasamy berkata tindakan dilakukan kerajaan itu hanya bertujuan menenangkan hati golongan Melayu, bukannya memikirkan hak masyarakat bukan Islam.
