JOHOR BARU: Johor recorded an increase in dengue cases with 2,755 cases in epidemiology week 42/2022, compared with 1,501 cases in the corresponding period in 2021.

State health and unity committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said from the 2,755 cases, 955 were epidemic locality cases while 1,800 were non-locality cases.

"There were 107 dengue fever reported in week 42 this year compared with 130 cases in week 42, which represented a 17.7% decline," he said in a statement on Tuesday . Ling said Johor Baru district has the highest number of cases with 82 , followed by Kulai with eight , Pontian with six , Mersing five , Kluang with three cases , Kota Tinggi with two and Muar with one case .Ling said Kluang, Pontian and Mersing recorded an increase in cases in week 42/2022 compared with week 41/2022.

He said 13 new hotspots were reported in Johor Baru, adding that there was only one death from dengue haemorrhagic fever in the state this year compared to three in 2021. Ling said the authorities had issued 4,151 compounds worth RM2.12mil to owners of premises found to be breeding places for Aedes mosquitoes and 64.2% paid the summonses.
