Mersing OCPD Supt Cyril Edward Nuing said the boat skipper and helper were spotted in the boat with five passengers near Pulau Rawa here at around 10am on Thursday .
“We pulled the 7.9m boat over, and a drug test found both men, aged 22 and 26, positive for methamphetamine. “They have been placed under remand for investigations under Section 15 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he said, adding that the seized boat was at the Mersing Marine Department while the investigation was being conducted.
Supt Cyril advised boat operators to ensure the safety of their passengers while adhering to the regulations and standard operating procedures outlined by the government. “As we enter the north-east monsoon season, all boat operators, fishermen and holidaymakers are urged to take extra precautions when participating in activities on the water.Article type: metered
