DESPITE replacing the word “heroes” with “soldiers” in the inscription of a Japanese war monument in Kedah, the state MCA Youth today erected banners around the cenotaph with slogans denouncing Japanese atrocities during the World War 2. Some members of Kedah MCA Youth covered the stele of the monument with a black banner bearing the words “Wira Menentang Askar Jepun” this morning, and erected red banners around the site that said “Invaders are not heroes”, “Murdered, raped and beheaded local citizens” and “Cruelty of Japanese soldiers!”.
