KUALA LUMPUR: A habeas corpus hearing relating to the detention of a man accused of having links to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) will be heard this Monday (Oct 21) at the Shah Alam High Court.

A habeas corpus hearing relating to the detention of a man accused of having links to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam will be heard this Monday at the Shah Alam High Court.

In a notice of motion sighted by The Star, 57-year-old B. Subramaniam, the applicant, has named the Inspector-General of Police as the sole respondent.It sought for a court order for the applicant to be released. A total of 12 men, including two assemblymen, have been detained by the police under the Security Offences Act 2012 since Oct 10 in connection with the LTTE.Its president Datuk Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor said that since the police had carried out surveillance on the suspects before arresting them, it would mean that they already had some evidence of the men's involvement in activities deemed detrimental to the security of the nation.

"We call upon the police to speed up investigations in adherence to the rule of law and natural justice, and to charge them in court if there is enough evidence to do so. " unnecessarily detain the suspects for the full length of 28 days as provided for under Sosma," he said in a statement on recently.
