PETALING JAYA: Certified instructors will be arranged to conduct Goods Driving Licence (GDL) courses to benefit the people of Labuan, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister said he had an opportunity to meet with members of Labuan communities, including leaders of the Labuan Federal Territories Residential Representative Council , on Thursday night.“Among the problems raised by NGO leaders was the difficulty in obtaining GDL for residents in Labuan and having to attend courses in Kota Kinabalu.

“Previously, there were qualified instructors to deliver GDL lectures for six hours before candidates were allowed to take the GDL test,” he said in a Facebook post on Friday . Dr Wee added that he had contacted Road Transport Department director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim to find an immediate solution by arranging for certified instructors to conduct GDL courses for people in Labuan.

“Apart from that, some representatives asked the Transport Ministry to study methods to encourage ships to enter Labuan Port and facilitate logistics and procurement of essential goods,” he added.“I had the opportunity to explain the efforts taken by the Transport Ministry to create more employment and business opportunities for the people of Labuan,” he said.
