PUTRAJAYA: A targeted enhanced movement control order (MCO) will be enforced in Lahad Datu, Tawau, Kunak and Semporna in Sabah to curb the spread of Covid-19, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The targeted enhanced MCO will start midnight on Sept 29 till Oct 12 and will involve 962,661 residents.

Ismail Sabri said that residents would not be allowed to leave the area throughout the 14 days while the order is in force.“All business activities will be stopped, with the exception of those providing essential services and shops selling essential goods, ” he said on Monday .Ismail Sabri said to ensure that the order is adhered to, police, the Armed Forces, Civil Defence, Rela and local authorities would be given the authority to control the said districts.

“We call for the public to remain calm and to give their full cooperation to health authorities and to follow orders issued by the authorities, ” he said. He said the Health Ministry had recorded 1,195 Covid-19 positive infections in Lahad Datu, Tawau, Kunak and Semporna between Sept 1 and 27.“Looking at the numbers, the government has decided to enforce the targeted enhanced MCO in these areas on the advice from the Health Minister, ” he said.
