KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested 523 individuals for defying the recovery movement control order (MCO), says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Defence Minister said 40 people were remanded while 483 were issued compounds for various recovery movement control order violations on Saturday .

"A total of 3,213 supermarkets, 3,893 restaurants, 1,017 hawkers, 1,011 factories as well as 2,896 banks and 528 government offices were checked. On sanitising operations of public places conducted by the Fire and Rescue Department and local governments, Ismail said 10,123 operations were conducted since March 30 involving 135 zones.

On mandatory quarantine, Ismail said 35,991 individuals returned to Malaysia between July 24 and Sept 26.
