GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today disagreed with a suggestion that his government ought to accept the construction of an international airport in Kedah, as suggested by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.
“Lim is the finance minister. Maybe, he is purely looking at the proposal from the perspective of the ministry. “But it does not mean all PFI is good. In this case, it might be good for Kulim but it may not be good for Penang,” Chow said at a press conference outside the state assembly today. He said even if the Kulim airport is a cargo-only facility, it would adversely impact the cargo facility at Penang International Airport .
The cost of operating an airport is too high for Kulim’s demand, they will increase airport tax to cover losses, flights to Kulim will cost more and people will eventually fly through Penang. Kedah will be poorer and everybody lose. Why not just provide a ferry/ bus service?
Chow’s obvious ‘taxi-mentality’. Only he has the right to have airports in his state. Others can’t build airports because he demands so.

Come on..dont lie.. the problems with penang airport are huge. People frequently miss flight because of traffic jam and unpredictable events on the bridge. The second bridge is too far. The airport is not directly connected to Penang Sentral. Build a train line to island first.

Think about it, the direct beneficiaries are the Industrial parks in Kulim and Batu Kawan, Penang island on the ecological system and liveability, and whole Malaysia, financially.

Looks like a politically motivated. It's dumb to have two airports at such close proximity. Just shut the kulim airport. It's faster to reach Alor Star with car then by plane.
