Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at Dewan Sri Pinang in George Town after a state assembly meeting earlier this week.
He said the same could be said for the proposed RM1.6 billion Kulim airport, which he warned could end up as a white elephant with inadequate traffic to render it financially viable in the long run. Under current plans, the PIA will be privately expanded at a cost of over RM1 billion next year to increase its passenger capacity by 6.5 million to 16 million annually.
Another option, he said, would be to close the Penang airport for good if the Kulim facility turns out to be bigger and more sophisticated.
