Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob could have just stepped down from his post if he has lost the majority support from the government he leads.
“If Muhyiddin was ousted because he lost his majority and was replaced by Ismail Sabri, why didn’t Ismail Sabri resign after losing his majority and just promote another prime minister? There is no need to dissolve the Parliament,” the 97-year-old politician on wrote his Facebook. He added that the government should have just stopped the special treatment for prisoners who have committed major crimes.
The Bera MP said that the decision to hold the election this year is to return the mandate back to the people to choose a new government since the current one that he inherited from Muhyiddin has been deemed as a ‘backdoor government’ brought upon by the infamous ‘Sheraton Move’.
