NSTnation: The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) will not allow the setting up of disinfection chambers in any public space within its jurisdiction. coronavirus covid19 MCO MovementControlOrder

According to Mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang, disinfection chambers may create a false sense of security for the public and would be of no help in the battle against Covid-19.

“So, we, in the State Special Security Committee meeting, decided that we will do away with the disinfection chamber and focus on more important things. Erected on April 2, the Balik Pulau market’s mobile disinfection chamber was Penang’s first, and was installed with the aim of providing a free, full-body sanitisation service to members of the public who make their way from their homes to the market and back.

“Let us focus on the most fundamental things – social distancing and frequent washing of hands. Putting up disinfection chambers is not a priority," he added.

Notice the staggered lifting. Schools open. Restnt, cafes and bars not yet. Travel restrictions much later. Mass gatherings, too. That's wise. Let's adapt and follow strategic release.
