PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded five new cases on Friday (July 3), bringing the total number of infections to 8,648.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said at the ministry’s Covid-19 press conference here that two of the five cases are local transmissions.

Both cases are Malaysians and were detected from a screening at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.Dr Noor Hisham also said nine more cases have been discharged, which means 8,446 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in Malaysia since the outbreak began.The number of active cases is now down to 81.

Currently, there are two people treated at intensive care units of which both patients are on ventilator support. Dr Noor Hisham announced no new deaths, which means the death toll remains at 121 cases for the 19th day in a row.
