PETALING JAYA: When they heard that wedding ceremonies were once again allowed to take place at non-Muslim houses of worship, they immediately swung into action.

Chia Pern Hui, 40, and senior finance executive Tham Yeng, 37, got themselves declared husband and wife at the Thean Hou Temple in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.Chia, 40, is a software engineer based in Zurich.

Lady Luck smiled on them eventually, as Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that weddings were allowed again at non-Muslim houses of worship from last Friday. Although she would be separated from her husband shortly after their wedding, she said it was not a big deal as she would be joining him there soon.The couple registered their marriage at the temple with Tham’s sister, her brother-in-law and her husband’s sister in attendance.Tham said both she and her husband were satisfied with the simple ceremony, saying they had intended to keep it short and sweet.
