ALOR GAJAH: A couple were jailed over two offences including triggering a 15km high-speed chase.

The accused, Mohd Haikal Faaiz Ramlan, 25, and his 19-year-old girlfriend Nur Aisyah Zakaria faced the charges at the Sessions Court here on Friday .Based on the statement of facts, both the accused had committed the first offence on April 12 at 7.30pm while driving at a traffic light junction at Rumbia, here, at a site categorised as an infectious area with an aim of loitering.

For the second offence, Haiqal and Nur Aisyah had voluntarily obstructed a public servant in discharging his duty, an offence under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum two-year imprisonment and RM10,000 fine or both.They were sentenced to three months in jail for the first offence and six months for the subsequent offence.The couple had escaped from police by fleeing from Rembia to Taman Angkasa Nuri before being arrested after their vehicle ran out of fuel.

For the first charge, Haiqal committed the offence on April 12 at 7.30pm along Jalan Rembia-Kendong by driving his car in a dangerous manner as well as beating a traffic light and police roadblock.
