BEIJING: Operations at the Malaysian embassy in China will carry on as usual, according to a message sent to the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China (Maycham China).

“Our first duty is to Malaysians abroad. Please be reassured, ” read the message sent by Malaysian ambassador to China, Raja Datuk Nushirwan Zainal Abidin .

This is apparently to clear any confusion over news reports of the Malaysian government's decision to bring back civil servants based in China in view of the novel coronavirus outbreak. According to Bernama, Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah on Wednesday said the 300-odd civil servants and their family members would return home in stages.

Maycham China chairman Will Fung said he and his members felt reassured after reading the ambassador’s message. He added they had been monitoring the outbreak closely and had liaised with the embassy to ensure that its members were promptly informed about latest developments. We're sorry, this article is unavailable at the moment.
