KOTA KINABALU: A bottom-up approach is the best mechanism for Sabah’s socio-economic growth through the mobilisation of the grassroots economy, says a government think-tank.

The Institute for Development Studies Sabah chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramzah Dambul in reviewing the State Budget 2023, said that this bottom up approach aligns the state budget with a holistic development direction.

"However, the full mechanism to productively utilise the allocated funds has to be thoroughly mapped out, in order to maximise the state’s resources. Ramzah said that the RM204mil and RM212.63mil allocated to the Local Government Development Ministry and Rural and Regional Development Ministry respectively, aspires to create a balanced region through heightening rural economic activities.

Ramzah said this could also be a key enabler for the state’s human capital plans in addressing youth unemployment in Sabah with a record of 9.1%.
