They helped set up about 1,000 beds at the low-risk Covid-19 centre (LRCC) at Mara Excellence Centre in Jawi, south Seberang Prai.

Penang Buddhist Tzu Chi Merit Society Malaysia commissioner Khoo Boo Leong said the setup was completed at 2.45pm on Saturday.

Khoo said 11 staff members from Penang Hospital were also at the centre to help the society finish the work.“On Friday, the volunteers were at the centre to do markings at two blocks that were gazetted as treatment centres for low-risk Covid-19 patients. The Mara Excellence Centre was picked as an LRCC after the state government requested for an additional location as quarantine centre from the National Disaster Management Agency .

The state currently has two such centres — Caring Society Complex in Jalan Utama, which has 150 beds, and Balik Pulau Sports Complex with 432 beds. Both are on the island.
