KUALA LUMPUR: The annual sales of the direct selling industry are expected to rise to RM20bil by the end of the year, said Deputy Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.

Its deputy minister Datuk Rosol Wahid told the Dewan Rakyat that he was confident that the industry would be able to achieve the RM20bil target.

Pang had asked the ministry to reveal the sales volume generated from the direct sales industry this year. Asked to comment on the cases of pyramid schemes that were disguised as direct selling or multi-level marketing companies, he said that multi-level marketing companies must register with the Ministry and adhere to the Direct Sales and Anti-Pyramid Scheme Act 1993 or risk having action taken against them.

He said the products must receive the approval from relevant authorities such as the Health Ministry for cosmetic and health products as well as certified by Sirim for electrical products.
