It's been two years since AMD launched Zen4 to the consumers but as the market goes, everyone is looking forward to the next-generation Zen5 architecture. That means the rumour mill has been churning away, with the latest leak from the red chipmaker's plumbing suggesting it will be way faster than what is currently being offered.

That rumour was leaked by popular tech leakster Kepler_L2, who posted their findings on the Anandtech Forums. According to their sources, Zen5 is expected to be a whopping 40% faster in single-core performance. However, it should be noted that the post doesn't state if that performance increment is an 'up to' or an average number or even if this is an instruction per clock increase.

Zen5 is expected to first power the Granite Ridge desktop CPU lineup first, replacing the current Raphael Zen4 systems. Meanwhile, the chipset will debut on mobile platforms as part of the Strix Point, Strix Halo, and Fire Range series. Like its desktop counterpart, Strix Point for mobile is also still on track for launch later this year, with one source hinting that we could hear about it as early as June this year.
