PETALING JAYA: PAS today promised to help Umno’s candidate win the upcoming Rantau by-election, a day after formalising its alliance with the Barisan Nasional component.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the party’s machinery would work with Umno’s when campaigning for the state seat. “This is a mandatory obligation for PAS, in line with the ‘ta’awun siyasi’ concept agreed on by the two parties,” he said in a statement.Umno acting president Mohamad Hasan said the decision to work with PAS was made after taking into account the direction of both parties and the current political scenario.It was triggered by the Election Court’s decision last November to allow PKR candidate Dr Streram Sinnasamy’s petition for fresh polls.
Streram filed the petition on May 23, 2018 to nullify the Election Commission’s decision to declare BN’s Mohamad the winner of the Rantau seat.
