PETALING JAYA: The number of sexual crime cases increased by 2.9% in 2022, with 3,303 cases last year compared to 3,209 cases the year before, according to the statistics department.“However, cases of unnatural sex, sexual harassment and outraging one’s modesty each decreased by 10.4%, 5.7% and 0.5% respectively,” he said in a statement.
He said the crime index went down by 4.1% with 50,813 cases recorded, while commercial crimes also decreased by 3% to 30,536 cases in 2022.Uzir said drug-related cases such as the supply and possession of drugs as well as positive urine tests showed an increase of 30.6% to 141,289 cases in 2022. “The offence of supplying drugs increased by 18%, drug possession increased by 35.1%, and positive urine tests increased by 31.2% compared to 2021. The number of drug-related arrests increased by 26.3% to 163,697 arrests in 2022,” he said.
