kualalumpur Lebih 50 NGO mendesak kerajaan supaya segera mengharamkan sepenuhnya penggunaan vape bagi melindungi rakyat daripada terus terjebak dengan produk berbahaya itu.

Wakil NGO berkenaan yang juga Presiden Majlis Kawalan Tembakau Malaysia Prof Datuk Dr Lekhraj Rempal berkata, saranan mengharamkan produk berkenaan sudah dicadangkan sejak 2015 ketika penggunaan vape sedang memuncak tetapi keputusan kerajaan adalah untuk mengawal selia dan memberi peluang kepada pengusaha supaya mematuhi peraturan ditetapkan.

“Antaranya, implikasi wap cecair vape kepada organ paru-paru kerana didapati ia mengandungi logam berat yang berpunca daripada bahan pembakar dan komponen vape selain beberapan kes kematian yang dilaporkan di Amerika Syarikat. Menurut Dr Lekhraj lagi, golongan yang tidak merokok seperti wanita dan pelajar sekolah juga mula terjerat dengan ketagihan nikotin dan ia terbukti dengan kajian yang menganggarkan 300,000 pelajar sekolah adalah pengguna vape.

“Kita tahu bahaya yang dihadapi namun masih menafikan dan dalam hal ini, kerajaan perlu bertegas, justeru kerjasama semua pihak diperlukan bagi mengatasi masalah ketagihan vape daripada terus berleluasa khususnya dalam kalangan golongan muda,” katanya.
